Endovascular Treatment of Cerebral Aneurysms
Yoon Pyeong-Ho

Kim Yong-Bae
Abstract
The endovascular treatment of ruptured or unruptured cerebral aneurysm has evolved rapidly in the past two decades through advances in tools and techniques. Moreover, large, randomized, controlled trials such as International Subarachnoid Aneurysm Trial (ISAT) and The International Study of Unruptured Intracranial Aneurysms (ISUIA) demonstrated that for aneurysms amenable to either surgical clipping or endovascular coiling, patients undergoing coil embolization had better long-term outcomes than those who underwent open surgical clipping. Thus, it is accepted that endovascular treatment is not anymore an alternative option to surgical treatment but has rather gained the place as the first therapeutic option for ruptured or unruptured aneurysm. This review describes the recent history, current status, and possible future of endovascular treatment for cerebral aneurysms.
